Sing, Sing, Sing

Here is a list of stuff that’s been hogging my Songbird lately:

  • Radiohead: Mostly Hail To The Thief. for some reason, although I’ve also returned to In Rainbows and the live album I Might Be Wrong.
  • Doctor Who OSTs: I started with a few favourites, like the theme song and All The Strange, Strange Creatures. I then took a liking for Doomsday. But most recently it’s been about the songs with lyrics, especially Love Don’t Roam performed by Neil Hannon and The Stowaway performed by Yamit Mamo. I’ve also grown to really like Voyage Of The Damned Suite. I think it all somehow reminds me of when I was in the school band.
  • The Decemberists: In anticipation of The Hazards Of Love, I’ve been listening to excerpts from The Crane Wife and Picaresque. Colin Meloy’s live album has also been a regular feature. We’re about a month away, and I really can’t wai.
  • You Only Live Once: The song by the Strokes. Rather frequently, too. For some reason, it gets me going in the mornings.
  • And…: Well, the rest has mostly been mood-dependent, though it’s included Southern All-Stars, Muse, The Flaming Lips, Gil Shaham, Thelonious Monk and Lykke Li.

Week Ahead

The week ahead is my recess week, though I suppose that gives the impression that it’s meant for my annual holiday. Well, it’s not. It’s the time when I’m meant to be catching up on work and worrying about tests. Well, it’s less than ten days so I suppose it will all pass very quickly.

Any Better?

Not really. Still not sleeping. Still rather incredibly sad every now and then. But I think the dust is settling and it’s not like anything else has been messed up because of this anyway. I’ll be back, I think, or maybe I already am, albeit somewhat changed. But you know that old saying about things changing and nothing perishing.

Monday Links (And Then Some)

Happy Deepavali

Which explains why I’m home.

Hawking

Stephen Hawking has stepped down from his post as Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge. [via PhysOrg] Some of the other notables who’ve sat on the chair of the Lucasian Professor include (of course) Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Babbage, Sir George Stokes and Paul Dirac.

I am sure he will continue to make scientific investigations, but this in some way marks the end of an era, and I can’t help but say, job well done, Dr. Hawking.

WordPress 2.7 is coming soon. [via WordPress.com]

My Eyes!

This is the official website of Mocmoc and Mermer. [via mocmoc & mermer] I never thought I would see the official site and I have to say that a long time ago when someone introduced them to me, I was for some reason rather creeped out. I still am.

Writing

I’ve been writing this Chinese music paper (in English). It has been rather challenging.

And in the meantime, I could do with some sleep. As always.

Sleepy Time Time

Sleep Debt?

I was very sleepy for the whole of yesterday. I have no idea why. When I finally got a seat on the train while I was on my way back home, I tried reading a few more pages of Darkmans, but I started to have double vision. And then I surrendered and just slept on the train (almost missing my stop).

I shouldn’t sit on the train. It always induces drowsiness.

In any case, it’s not like I hadn’t been sleeping enough, so this is something of a minor irritant.

Big Plans!

Which I cannot tell you about! But my long-term writing plans! are doing great! And things are looking so very nice now!

Change Of Pace

I bought FIFA 09 yesterday, having been a long-time Winning Eleven fan. I’ve heard good things so I thought that it might be a good idea to see what’s on the other side of the fence. And besides, they mess up Winning Eleven every now and then, and I’m not sure they’ve got a good idea of the way forward.

Even if it doesn’t work out, I’m sure it’ll be playable. And I’ll go back to Winning Eleven next year if I’m really not satisfied.

School Blues

The worst part of the school experience is not the time when you’re rushing to beat the deadlines. It’s when you know the deadlines are approaching, but for some reason can’t (bring yourself to) do what you’re supposed to be working on. I’m experiencing that now. It’s the sort of thing that makes you tingle with that tiny morsel of dread. Just enough to disturb you and give you bad dreams, but not enough to make you panic and do something useful.

And the exams are coming. Looming over the horizon like evil mythical creatures.

But to be fair, this semester has been rather interesting, with the social dynamics developing a bit given the time we’ve spent together. And I’ve been meeting a couple of new people, so it’s all been interesting.

Long Day

And another long day today. Grr.
